If you’re the type who not only loves to be the first to snatch up the coolest new pet products but is also passionate about supporting small business and crafters, you can do both at Cuteness.com’s recently-launched Flea Market. This pets-only marketplace is similar to Etsy, except it’s exclusively for pet products and pet-themed products for people. Like the popular crafting site, all of the sellers on Cuteness are independent sellers who manage their own “pet shops,” listings, and inventory. “We wanted to give small business owners, who get lost on sites like eBay and Etsy, the opportunity to reach an exclusive audience of pet owners,” says Cuteness founder Erick Laubach.
Classic Maroon Trench Coat by DOGO Pet Fashions
As expected, small-scale pet product retailers are excited about this opportunity. When asked why he chose to sell in this new marketplace, Eddie Peng of DOGO Pet Fashions explains, “Cuteness has a strong social following and we believe it is a great way not just to sell, but create brand awareness.”
Upcycled Dog Toys from Mootugs
Unlike major retailers, many products on Cuteness are unique and handmade, which appeals to discriminating and trendsetting shoppers who want their pets to stand out from the pack. For example, you’ll find eco-friendly, upcycled milking udders turned dog tug toys (which retain a dairy farm scent which dogs love!) to weather-resistant trench coats for dogs. The only drawback: Cuteness’ marketplace is currently only open to buyers and sellers in the US & Canada, though they have plans to expand in the future.
Self Tugging Dog Toy by Tether Tug
For those who want to sell products on Cuteness.com, the process is easy and free. Flea Market seller David Hayford of Tether Tug offers the following advice: “Learn who your customers are and love them. You probably won’t be the cheapest product out there so you have to be the best. We answer all of the emails personally, embrace the culture and listen to our customers everyday.”
Now that’s the kind of pet shop that anyone would want to support!
